He attended undergraduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was Morehead Scholar, North Carolina Fellow and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He also served as Student Body President. He attended law school at the same institution where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif. He graduated with honors.
Following law school, Joe practiced law on Wall Street. He then moved back to his hometown and practiced law there until he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Joe is a senior partner at his Raleigh law firm. His epiphany as a lawyer was realizing that his mission was to have his clients identify what they wanted and needed and then to facilitate the accomplishment of those goals.
Community service is also important to Joe. He was elected by the North Carolina Legislature to the University of North Carolina Board of Governors which oversees the sixteen universities in the North Carolina system. Prior to that, he served on the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has also served as the President of the North Carolina Small Business Administration Council. He additionally has chaired a local United Way Campaign and has served on numerous non-profit boards.
Joe was introduced to Dazzle by his longtime friend, Stacy James. After many conversations, Joe decided that it was important for him to go to Zambia with the Dazzle team. He fell in love with the warm, intelligent and resilient Zambian people. He became committed to creating opportunities for Mfuwe school kids, many of whom walk miles each day to and from school. His Zambian experience also taught him that the African wildlife would thrive if humankind would just stay out of their way.
Joe believes that ultimately what matters are wholesome relationships and his commitment to making a difference for others. He wants Dazzle to continue to transform Mfuwe and then extend its mission to all of Zambia and beyond.

Dana Balaban 2016/2017/2018
Dana Balaban is a native of Las Vegas and has owned a transportation company in Las Vegas for over thirty years. She grew up in the midwest in a farming community and spent much time in nature where her love of animals and nature started. She has always enjoyed helping other beings in need and has a special love for protecting and rescuing animals.
After returning to Las Vegas in the early 80’s Dana and her two brothers started Desert Taxi Cab Company and On Demand Sedan, which they own today. She lives between Las Vegas, Arizona and New Mexico and works with charities in her communities. Donating to give back, supporting her communities and inspiring others to get involved however they can has always been important.
In 2009 Dana and her longtime friend Zoe Larner formed a 501c3 nonprofit organization called Arts A Cause. Their goal is to “share, care and create hope” she combined her love of photography and philanthropy by donating her printed photography to Arts A Cause to sell through art shows and on their website to raise money for their charity. Dana and Zoey have raised money for special needs schools, women’s shelters, and animal rescues. Currently, most of their funding is spent on animal rehabilitation, financing animal fostering, and financing veterinarian services for those who need assistance.
Dana was introduced to Dazzle Africa by co-founder, Joanne Hardy, and attended her first Dazzle Africa safari in 2016. Going on safari was always a dream of Dana’s and that she could go with a charity was a blessing that she is grateful. Her experience while on safari was life-changing. She finally understood that the poaching situation in Africa was the problem of the world and that we need to find answers and solutions to stop poaching before more species become extinct from poaching. After falling in love with Zambia and seeing the need to get involved now to save these animals and support all the “local residence” human and animals, she was honored to become a Champion member of Dazzle Africa and their conservation, education and clean water projects. They are a charity worth getting behind because they are doing hands-on work for all the right reasons. I am honored to say I am a part of a charity that is really making a difference and giving themselves fully to these critical projects.
