Dazzle Africa is proud to partner with The Bushcamp Company to provide clean water to families in the South Luangwa Valley, Zambia. Generous guests of Dazzle Africa Safari 2016 and guest Kristi Overgaard have donated four water wells providing daily clean water to over 1200 families.
“Most of us take it very much for granted that, with the simple act of turning on a tap, clean, safe water will always be available. Whenever we feel thirsty, or need to bathe, or even water our gardens, it requires little thought or effort. But we are the lucky ones…around half of the world’s population lacks this most basic of life’s necessities.
- It is estimated that, in Africa alone, over 345 million people are without access to clean water.
- Women spend 200 million hours a day collecting water.
- More than 3.4 million people die each year from water-, sanitation-, and hygiene-related causes. Nearly all deaths, 99 percent, occur in the developing world.
In the Luangwa valley, local communities are growing rapidly in size, and the majority of villagers still have no convenient access to safe, clean water.
However, there is an answer to this problem…and we want to help. Safe, clean water is available, but it is stored underground. To reach it, deep boreholes need to be drilled and central pumps need to be provided. This is not such a difficult task, but it does require funding and organization.
This is a project that we consider to be vital to the well being of our local communities, providing tangible benefits to thousands of people.” The Bushcamp Company
